The Kebbi State Government has firmly denied allegations concerning the use of substandard materials in the construction of the 6.4-kilometer Argungu dual carriageway, a project valued at N7.23 billion. These allegations, propagated by certain civic groups and media outlets, have been labeled as unfounded and misleading by state officials.

On March 18, 2025, reports emerged from platforms like MonITNG, calling for investigations into the Argungu road project over concerns about material quality. The reports suggested that substandard materials were being utilized, potentially compromising the project’s integrity.

In response, the Kebbi State Government, through the Commissioner for Works, Alhaji Abdullahi Umar-Muslim, addressed the media to refute these claims. He asserted that the project adheres to all engineering standards and specifications. The contractor, Amirco Engineering, is reportedly executing the project in line with the agreed-upon guidelines.

Specific Clarifications

  • Culvert Construction: Contrary to allegations that blocks were used instead of reinforced concrete for culverts, the government clarified that the construction aligns with the approved engineering designs.

  • Project Supervision: The government emphasized that the project undergoes regular inspections by qualified engineers to ensure compliance with quality standards.

The government has urged the public and media to verify information before dissemination to prevent the spread of misinformation that could undermine developmental efforts.
