June 12 Struggles Betrayed? Opadokun Criticizes IBB for ‘Dancing on the Graves’ of Democracy Martyrs

Renowned democracy activist Ayo Opadokun has criticized former military leader, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB), accusing him of dishonoring the memories of pro-democracy activists who lost their lives during the struggle for June 12, 1993, elections.

Opadokun alleged that Babangida’s recent public statements and actions suggest a lack of remorse for the annulment of the June 12 election, which is widely regarded as Nigeria’s most credible democratic exercise.

The pro-democracy veteran argued that the former head of state continues to downplay the sacrifices made by those who fought for the country’s return to democracy. His comments have reignited conversations about Nigeria’s political past and the need for justice for victims of the military era.
