A federal judge has denied Sean “Diddy” Combs’ request to be transferred from his current prison in New York to the Federal Correctional Institution in Fort Dix, New Jersey, a low-security facility known for its more lenient conditions.
The music mogul, who is serving a 50-month sentence for sex-related offences, had petitioned the court for the move, citing proximity to family and better access to rehabilitation programs as key reasons. However, Judge Arun Subramanian rejected the request, stating that the final decision on prison placement lies with the Bureau of Prisons, not the court.
In the ruling issued on Wednesday, the judge noted that while the court could recommend a location near the New York metropolitan area, it could not dictate the exact facility where Combs would serve his term.
“The court will recommend that the defendant be incarcerated as close as possible to New York and be considered for any available substance abuse program,” the judge wrote, adding that the Bureau of Prisons would ultimately determine the appropriate placement.
This marks another legal setback for Combs, whose attempts to overturn his conviction have already been denied. The court also affirmed that his incarceration will continue in the vicinity of his current facility to maintain administrative consistency.
Why Diddy Is Behind Bars
Sean “Diddy” Combs was arrested by U.S. Homeland Security agents at a Manhattan hotel in September 2024 following a grand jury indictment. He faced multiple charges, including racketeering and sex trafficking. During his trial, prosecutors accused him of transporting women, including his ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura, across state lines for sexual purposes, invoking violations under the Mann Act of 1910.
After months of hearings and witness testimonies, a jury in July 2025 acquitted Combs of the major racketeering and sex trafficking charges but found him guilty of two lesser offences involving the transportation of individuals for prostitution. He was sentenced on October 3, 2025, to four years and two months in prison, along with five years of supervised release and a $500,000 fine, the maximum allowed by law.
Diddy Sentenced To Four Years In Prison Over Prostitution Charges
Before sentencing, the rapper publicly acknowledged his misconduct, describing his past actions as “shameful” and apologizing to the victims named in the case. Judge Subramanian said the sentence was designed to reinforce accountability and send a clear message that abuse and exploitation would not be tolerated.
Combs’ legal team has continued to explore possible avenues for appeal, but with the latest ruling, the music icon will remain in federal custody under his current conditions.
