U.S. men’s national team coach Mauricio Pochettino says he still sees himself returning to the Premier League, insisting he has the hunger, and the age, to compete for the biggest trophies in club football again.
In an interview with BBC Sport, the former Tottenham and Chelsea boss admitted that even though he is settled in the United States, the pull of England’s top flight has never truly gone away.
Pochettino said coaching in England shaped some of the most important years of his career, and he still believes the league offers a level of competition he wants to experience again.
“The Premier League is the best in the world,” he said. “Of course I miss it. I’m very happy in the USA, but returning one day is always in my mind. It’s the most competitive league and, of course, I would love to come back again.”

The Argentine took charge of the U.S. men’s national team in September 2024 and has focused heavily on preparing the squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which the country will co-host. His deal runs for two years, and a sizeable compensation package makes an early exit unlikely. Still, he made it clear that his long-term ambitions lie back in club football.

Even as he commits to rebuilding the U.S. team, Pochettino remains driven by the targets he set during his Premier League years, specifically winning the league title and lifting the Champions League.
He noted that he feels “young enough” to return to the intensity of club management and still believes he can secure the trophies that eluded him during his time with Spurs and Chelsea.
While some fans have speculated about a possible return to Tottenham, Pochettino downplayed such talk recently, saying a reunion with the club is not on the cards at the moment.
For now, he remains focused on the U.S. national team, but his message is unmistakable: the Premier League door is wide open in his mind, and he fully intends to walk through it again.
