House of Reps Extends Submission Deadline for Memoranda on State Creation

 The House of Representatives has extended the deadline for the submission of memoranda on state creation, giving stakeholders more time to present their proposals.

 The extension was announced by the House Committee on Constitution Review, which is currently evaluating requests from various interest groups advocating for the creation of new states. 

The process of state creation in Nigeria has been a long-standing debate, with many ethnic and regional groups pushing for new states to enhance political representation and development. The committee’s decision to extend the deadline comes after several advocacy groups and community leaders requested more time to compile and submit their recommendations.

Lawmakers assured the public that all submitted memoranda would be carefully reviewed, taking into consideration the economic viability, population size, and administrative feasibility of proposed new states. However, experts caution that creating new states requires constitutional amendments and extensive deliberations before approval.

The House of Representatives has urged Nigerians to actively participate in the process, stressing that public input is crucial in shaping the country’s political and administrative landscape.
