Paris Saint-Germain defender Achraf Hakimi has spoken publicly about the rape allegation against him, saying he remains calm and confident that he will be cleared.
In an interview with journalist Mouloud Achour for Canal+’s “Clique” programme, a clip of which aired on Wednesday night, Hakimi said he was at peace despite the case.
“I know that what I am accused of is a lie,” the 26-year-old Morocco international stated. “I know that I have not done anything and that I would never do that. Today, I have peace of mind… hoping that the truth will soon be revealed.”

French prosecutors last month called for Hakimi to face trial over allegations that he raped a 24-year-old woman in February 2023. Investigators say the woman travelled to Hakimi’s home in Boulogne-Billancourt after the player allegedly paid for her transportation while his wife and children were away on holiday. She later went to a police station and alleged rape, though she did not file a formal complaint. Prosecutors nonetheless pressed charges in March 2023.
Hakimi has consistently denied the accusation, claiming he is the target of an extortion attempt. His legal team has argued that the case is based on weak evidence.
However, the woman’s lawyer, Rachel-Flore Pardo, rejected Hakimi’s claim, telling AFP: “Nothing in the case lends in any way to a characterising of extortion. Mr Hakimi is trying to create a counter-fire that we are used to in cases of sexual violence.”
On August 1, the Nanterre prosecutor’s office formally asked an investigating judge to refer the case to a criminal court, which could lead to Hakimi standing trial.
Despite the legal proceedings, Hakimi has continued to play for both PSG and Morocco, helping his club to win the UEFA Champions League in May. He also remains a key figure for Morocco’s national team, which made history by reaching the semi-finals of the 2022 World Cup.
