In an effort to promote safer and more sustainable cooking practices, Guaranty Trust Holding Company (GTCO) has distributed 3,000 gas cylinders to residents of a community in Ogun State. The initiative, which is part of the company’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) program, is aimed at reducing the risks associated with the use of firewood and kerosene stoves.
According to GTCO’s representatives, many households in the community still rely on outdated and hazardous cooking methods, exposing them to serious health risks and environmental hazards. The distribution of gas cylinders is expected to encourage more people to transition to cleaner, more efficient cooking energy.
Speaking at the event, GTCO’s head of CSR, Mrs. Funmi Adewale, emphasized the company’s commitment to improving the quality of life in local communities.
“We believe that access to clean cooking energy should not be a privilege but a right,” she stated. “By providing these gas cylinders, we are not just promoting safety but also helping families save money in the long run.”
Many of the beneficiaries expressed gratitude, stating that the initiative would ease the financial burden of acquiring gas cylinders, which many low-income households struggle to afford. Environmental experts have also applauded the move, noting that it will contribute to reducing deforestation and air pollution caused by traditional cooking methods.
