Mark Obi who is the Special Adviser on Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) to Cross River State Governor Benedict Bengioushuye Ayade, has resigned.

“Following recent happenings in the political alignment of the state governor, I am persuaded to review my involvement in the current state administration.”

The letter further stated, “Consequently, being a founding and subsisting member of the PDP in Cross River, I cannot in good conscience remain in my appointment as special adviser on Sustainable Development Goals.

“I hereby resign my appointment as special adviser immediately. I am very grateful to Governor Ayade for finding me worthy to serve the state in the said capacity.

“Nevertheless, I will continue to support the state and government in any way possible as a stakeholder and senior citizen.”

Mr Obi had represented Boki 2 State Constituency in the Cross River House of Assembly as a PDP member between 1999 and 2007.

You will recall that, Gov. Shade defected to APC from PDP recently and according to him, his reason for the defection was to be in alignment with the central government for prosperous growth and development and to also join hands with President Muhammadu Buhari in building the nation.
His defection celebration was honoured by 6 APC governors which include the Governor of Kebbi, Imo, Yobe, Plateau, Jigawa, and Ekiti State.
In the event, he said, “Buhari’s commitment to the development of the country is commendable. It is obvious at this point that we need to join hands with him to build a nation that we all can be proud of.

“As a team, we want to work with Mr President towards building a prosperous country that his succession process in 2023 will come without fear and hitches. If we as governors join hands with the President and agree on a way to govern this country, we will make progress.

“Having recognised the issue of our youths and unemployment, it is my responsibility as the leader of the party to do what I can to assist the President in the building process,” he said.

Ayade added, ”We need to position Cross River at the centre of activities and on that note, I declare Cross River as an APC state.”

While responding to the development, the Governor of Yobe State, Mai Bala-Buni, who is Caretaker Chairman of APC, welcomed Ayade into the party’s fold.

He declared, “As from today, Ayade is the leader of APC in Cross River.’’
