Egyptian forward Mohamed Salah could be set for a surprise switch to Turkey, as Galatasaray are reportedly preparing an ambitious bid to bring the Liverpool talisman to Istanbul during the upcoming winter transfer window.
According to Turkish outlet Nefes, the Süper Lig champions have made Salah their top transfer target as part of their “star policy”, a bold recruitment strategy that has already attracted top names like Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen and Germany’s Ilkay Gündogan to the club.
The 33-year-old winger, who has spent eight years at Liverpool, is said to be open to new challenges as his future at Anfield becomes increasingly uncertain.
Salary demands may complicate deal
However, the move could hinge on Salah’s massive wages. The Egyptian currently earns around €25 million annually at Liverpool — a figure Galatasaray are reportedly unwilling to match.
The Turkish giants are said to be proposing a revised offer of €15 million per year, banking on the player’s desire for a fresh chapter and the chance to play in one of Europe’s most passionate football environments.
While negotiations are still in the exploratory stage, club insiders believe Salah’s admiration for Galatasaray’s fervent fanbase and the opportunity to play alongside Osimhen could tilt the balance in their favour.
The Istanbul club has become increasingly aggressive in the transfer market, hoping to elevate their global profile through high-profile signings. Their acquisition of Osimhen earlier this year was one of the biggest in Turkish football history, and pairing him with Salah would mark another monumental statement of intent.
The duo, who are among Africa’s most celebrated players, could form one of the continent’s most formidable attacking partnerships if the deal materialises.
Salah’s Liverpool legacy
Since joining Liverpool from AS Roma in 2017 for €42 million, Salah has established himself as a club legend. He has scored 248 goals and provided 116 assists in 411 appearances, leading the Reds to historic triumphs including the Premier League, UEFA Champions League, FA Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup titles.
Now 33, Salah remains under contract with Liverpool until 2027, with his market value currently estimated at €50 million, according to Transfermarkt.
Salah Under Fire As Liverpool Struggle To Find Their Spark
While Liverpool have not issued an official response to the speculation, sources close to the club suggest they may be open to a high-value sale if the forward expresses a desire to leave.
Should the move go through, it would not only mark a new chapter in Salah’s illustrious career but also solidify Galatasaray’s position as a growing power in European football, one capable of luring some of the game’s biggest stars to Turkey.
