The Fusengbuwa Ruling House of Ijebu-Ode has formally dismissed the application submitted by Fuji icon Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as KWAM 1, to contest for the Awujale throne, insisting that he does not belong to the royal lineage currently entitled to produce the next monarch.
KWAM 1 had last week declared interest in the prestigious stool, which became vacant after the passing of Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona in July at the age of 91. His ambition has since stirred heated conversations, especially online, where many questioned whether he is truly an indigene of Ijebuland.
Responding to the controversy, the singer maintained he is rooted in the Fidipotemole and Fusegbunwa families of Ijebu-Ode, arguing that seeking the throne is within his rights. “You cannot shut me up,” he said, defending his claim to the royal line.
But the Fusengbuwa family says otherwise.
In a letter dated December 11 and signed by Lateef Owoyemi, chairman of the ruling house, the family said a thorough review failed to establish any connection between the singer and the Jadiara Royal House, the branch whose turn it is to produce the next Awujale.

The letter declared his submitted linkage form “null, void and of no consequence,” noting that it was certified by an unrecognised figure who has “no locus standi” to act on behalf of the family.

“Our extensive investigation has not revealed any proof of your membership of the Jadiara Royal House or indeed the Fusengbuwa Ruling House,” the letter stated. “For the avoidance of doubt, your claim to the membership of Fusengbuwa Ruling House is rejected.”
Abiodun Ogidan, spokesperson for the Fusengbuwa nomination committee, said the family will meet on December 15 to finalize the list of contestants. The nominees will then be forwarded to the kingmakers, who are expected to select the next Awujale within seven days.
