The Federal University, Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE), has recently become a focal point of controversy following sexual harassment allegations against its Vice-Chancellor, Professor Abayomi Fasina. In response, a significant number of students and advocacy groups have publicly defended the Vice-Chancellor, denouncing the allegations as unfounded attempts to destabilize the institution.
On a recent Wednesday, FUOYE students organized a protest expressing their dissatisfaction with the accusations, labeling them as baseless and politically motivated. Similarly, the Campaign for Justice and Fair Play, an advocacy group, criticized the National Women’s Committee of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) for what they described as unsubstantiated claims against Professor Fasina.
The university’s Student Union leadership has also voiced strong support for the Vice-Chancellor, urging him to remain focused on his developmental agenda for the institution. They characterized the allegations as immature and unwarranted, cautioning against distractions that could hinder the university’s progress.
As the situation unfolds, stakeholders within the university community advocate for due process and a thorough investigation to uphold justice and maintain the institution’s integrity.
