FRSC Arrests 7,700 for Use of Fake Number Plates, Vows Stricter Enforcement

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has intensified its crackdown on vehicle registration fraud, leading to the arrest of 7,798 individuals for using fake number plates. This massive enforcement operation was carried out over a two-month period as part of FRSC’s efforts to enhance road safety and curb criminal activities associated with unauthorized vehicle identification.

According to FRSC spokesperson Bisi Kazeem, the arrested individuals were found using counterfeit plates to evade law enforcement, engage in illegal activities, or avoid proper vehicle documentation. Some of the offenders, he noted, were linked to organized crime syndicates that specialize in producing and distributing fake number plates across the country.

The FRSC has warned that violators will face severe penalties, including prosecution and vehicle impoundment. The agency urged motorists to ensure they obtain their number plates through authorized channels to avoid legal consequences.

With the rising concerns over vehicle-related crimes, including kidnapping and smuggling, the FRSC has pledged to expand its monitoring system and deploy advanced technology to detect fraudulent number plates in real time. The Corps also called on the public to report any suspicious number plates to authorities, emphasizing that road safety is a collective responsibility.
