German police launched a manhunt on April 20, 2025, after two people were shot dead in Frankfurt’s Bahnhofsviertel district, a bustling area known for its nightlife.
According to Reuters and DW, the incident occurred at 2:30 AM near Kaiserstraße, with the victims, aged 34 and 41, killed by gunfire from an unknown assailant. Witnesses reported a black sedan fleeing the scene, prompting a citywide search involving helicopters and special forces. The Frankfurt prosecutor’s office confirmed the victims were local residents with no known criminal ties, ruling out an immediate gang-related motive.
Police cordoned off the area, disrupting transport, and urged residents to avoid the district. Germany’s strict gun laws, requiring licenses for firearms, make such shootings rare, with 2024 recording 150 gun deaths nationwide, per Statista. Investigators are probing whether the attack was targeted, possibly linked to personal disputes, though no suspects have been named. The incident follows a 2024 Hanau shooting that killed nine, raising concerns about urban violence.
