Afrobeat singer and activist Seun Kuti has sparked controversy once again with his remarks on feminism, stating that the movement has become an excuse for individuals to engage in gender wars rather than advocate for genuine equality.
During a recent interview, Kuti argued that while feminism originally had noble intentions, it has been hijacked by extremists who use it to fuel animosity between men and women. He claimed that instead of working towards real empowerment, many online debates under the guise of feminism now focus on attacking the opposite gender.
His comments have triggered a wave of reactions, with some agreeing that certain factions of the movement have become divisive, while others condemned his stance as dismissive of the struggles women continue to face.
This isn’t the first time Seun Kuti has weighed in on social issues with strong opinions, and it’s unlikely to be the last. As discussions surrounding feminism and gender relations in Nigeria continue, his statements have added fuel to an already heated debate.
