The former minister of aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode (FFK) has finally defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
This move of FFK in a way confirmed the long months’ speculation by Nigerians that the former aviation minister is planning a defection to the ruling party APC.
According to reports, FFK dumped PDP after he had a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the State House in Abuja on Thursday, during which both posed for a photograph that has now gone viral online.
It was gathered that the Governor of Yobe State and APC party’s caretaker chairman Mai Mala Buni was the conveyor of Mr Fani-Kayode’s journey to Buhari which produces the result of FFK becoming a member of APC.
Mr Fani-Kayode said he played a vital role in the defection of three PDP governors from the opposition party to APC.
The former minister alleged that he was divinely directed to dump the main opposition party for APC to help foster national unity.
Throwback picture story showing FFK statement of rejecting APC.
Me Kayode however, invited other PDP governors to dump PDP to join the APC.
You recall, in June, the Governor of Zamfara State Bello Matawalle became the third governor from the PDP to cross over to the APC within the last two years.
Also In May, Cross River Governor Ben Ayade left the PDP to join APC, saying his decision was base on the interest of his people. He was elected senator under the PDP and won two terms as governor as a member of the same party.
Weeks ahead of Mr Ayade’s decision, another long-time PDP member Governor Dave Umahi of Ebonyi left the party for the ruling APC, alleging maltreatment of the South-East region and an unwillingness to hand the presidency ticket to the zone.
Meanwhile, Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello had earlier announced in February that FFK is working his way to join APC, a statement FFK dismissed as mere political banta at the time.
