Federal Government Launches Portal to Combat Housing Fraud

The Federal Government has unveiled a groundbreaking digital platform to empower Nigerians to report housing fraud, marking a bold step toward transparency in the real estate sector.

On August 26, 2025, the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development launched the Housing Fraud Reporting Portal, a digital tool enabling citizens to report fraudulent practices in housing estates, submit evidence, and track case progress. Accessible at https://reports.fmhud.gov.ng, the user-friendly platform was introduced in Abuja with demonstrations by consultants Freestone Investments Limited and Prunedge Development Technologies Limited. Minister Arc. Ahmed Musa Dangiwa emphasized that the initiative aligns with the 2012 National Housing Policy, which mandates stricter regulation of the housing industry.

The portal, developed in partnership with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, ensures thorough review of complaints alongside professional bodies, law enforcement, and the judiciary. The Ministry also unveiled the Contract Performance and Compliance Project Monitoring System, designed to enhance real-time oversight of housing projects and maintain a centralized document repository. Dangiwa warned that fraudulent practices will face severe consequences, signaling a zero-tolerance stance.

The launch has sparked hope for a cleaner real estate sector, with some praising the government’s proactive approach, while others call for robust enforcement to ensure accountability. The initiative, addressing Nigeria’s housing deficit and fraud concerns, tests the Ministry’s commitment to protecting citizens. As Nigerians begin using the portal, it promises to reshape trust in housing transactions, fostering a transparent and equitable market.
