Former Ekiti State Governor, Kayode Fayemi, has stated that while President Bola Tinubu has good intentions for Nigeria, well-meaning alone is insufficient for effective leadership.
Speaking on Politics Today on Channels Television, Fayemi, who described Tinubu as his elder brother, emphasized the need for a strong policy framework that aligns with strategic leadership to bring about the desired change for Nigerians.
“He [Tinubu] is well-meaning, but well-meaning is not enough in leadership; intentionality is critical to success,” the All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain said.
As a key member of the ruling party and a close ally of the president, Fayemi acknowledged Tinubu’s boldness in making difficult decisions that previous administrations had avoided. However, he noted that despite knowing the right course of action, leaders sometimes hesitate due to various external factors.
“President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has made commendable efforts. He has taken on some of the toughest decisions, such as the removal of fuel subsidies and the unification of the foreign exchange market,” Fayemi said.
“These actions have triggered a significant cost-of-living crisis. Whether it’s student loans, countering insurgency, addressing insecurity, tax policy reforms, or increasing federal revenue, individual efforts are visible but must come together cohesively.”
According to him, achieving a turnaround requires a well-structured policy framework alongside strong leadership acumen to reshape Nigeria’s economic and political landscape. “Perhaps, this is the area where more work needs to be done,” he added.
