Emir Aminu Ado Bayero Cancels Eid-el-Fitr Durbar Citing Security Concerns

 The 15th Emir of Kano, Alhaji Aminu Ado Bayero, has announced the cancellation of the traditional Eid-el-Fitr Durbar celebration for the year 2025, attributing the decision to prevailing security concerns within the state. The announcement was made during a press briefing at his Nasarawa Mini Palace in Kano. 

Emir Bayero emphasized that the well-being and peaceful coexistence of the Kano populace take precedence over the annual festivities. He revealed that the decision followed extensive consultations with respected Islamic clerics, elders, stakeholders, and members of the Emirate Council, all of whom advised that suspending the Durbar would be in the best interest of maintaining peace and security in the region. ​

The Durbar, a significant cultural event featuring elaborate horse parades and showcasing the rich heritage of the Kano Emirate, has historically been a highlight of the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations. Its cancellation underscores the gravity of the current security challenges facing the state. 

Emir Bayero urged the people of Kano to utilize the Sallah period to strengthen familial and communal bonds, encouraging visits to family and friends while observing the festivities in a peaceful and harmonious manner. He also offered prayers for divine blessings, seeking forgiveness and mercy for the people during the sacred month of Ramadan.
