Chief Edwin Kiagbodo Clark, a prominent elder statesman and leader of the Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF), has died at the age of 97.
Clark, a vocal advocate for the rights of the Niger Delta people, was a key figure in the region’s struggle for resource control and development. His passing marks the end of an era for the Niger Delta and Nigeria as a whole.
Throughout his long and distinguished career, Clark played a significant role in Nigerian politics. He served in various capacities, including as a Federal Commissioner during the military regime of General Yakubu Gowon. He was also a strong voice against injustice and inequality, consistently speaking out against the marginalization of the Niger Delta region.
PANDEF, which he led, became a powerful platform for advocating for the development of the region and demanding greater participation in the country’s affairs. Clark’s death has been met with an outpouring of grief from across the nation, with many remembering him as a fearless leader and a champion of his people.
