Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai’s engagement with opposition figures, including PDP’s Atiku Abubakar, has ignited a political firestorm, drawing sharp criticism from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC). El-Rufai’s actions are perceived as a move to forge a coalition against President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
APC National Secretary Ajibola Basiru accused El-Rufai of pursuing an ethnic agenda following his failed ministerial bid. “El-Rufai’s recent fraternization with opposition figures underscores his intent to destabilize the current administration,” Basiru stated. El-Rufai’s initial nomination was rejected by the National Assembly on security grounds.
In response, PDP representatives defended their engagement with El-Rufai, citing the need for a united front to address national challenges. “Collaborating across party lines is essential to foster national unity and tackle the myriad issues facing our nation,” a PDP spokesperson said.
Political analysts suggest El-Rufai’s outreach signals a potential realignment within Nigeria’s political landscape, impacting future electoral strategies.
