Former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has raised concerns over an alleged plot by the Nigerian government to arrest and detain him in a secret facility, similar to the treatment of former Central Bank Governor Godwin Emefiele.
El-Rufai made the claims in response to a post by one of his supporters, Imran U. Wakili, on X (formerly Twitter). According to Wakili, there were rumors that the former governor might soon face arrest.
Reacting, El-Rufai alleged that security agencies were plotting to detain him in a facility controlled by the Office of the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, over his vocal criticisms of the current administration. “They will arrest me and detain me in a dungeon just like they did to Emefiele. They want to silence me,” he wrote.
Despite being a prominent party member, his remarks come amid growing political tension, as El-Rufai has been increasingly critical of certain policies of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
Government officials have not officially responded to his allegations. Still, security analysts speculate that his claims may be linked to an ongoing probe into financial dealings during his tenure as Kaduna State governor.
El-Rufai’s statement has sparked widespread reactions, with supporters warning against any attempts to silence opposition voices, while political analysts suggest the allegations reflect a deepening power struggle within the ruling party.
