The Edo State Geographic Information Service (EDOGIS) has inaugurated two new offices in Ekpoma and Auchi as part of a strategic move to decentralize land administration and make land-related services more accessible to residents outside the state capital, Benin City.
The new offices will provide critical services such as land documentation, title registration, survey approvals, and certificate of occupancy (C of O) processing. According to the Edo State government, the expansion aims to address challenges faced by landowners in rural and semi-urban areas who previously had to travel long distances to the EDOGIS headquarters in Benin for these services.
Speaking at the commissioning of the new centers, Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo reiterated his administration’s commitment to improving governance through digitalization and efficient service delivery. He noted that the land administration process in the state had been significantly reformed through technology, reducing cases of land disputes and fraud.
Residents of Ekpoma and Auchi welcomed the development, stating that the proximity of these offices would ease bureaucratic bottlenecks and encourage more people to register their land holdings properly. With land being a key driver of economic growth, the government believes that improved land administration will attract investors, enhance property security, and boost internally generated revenue (IGR) for the state.
