Cristiano Ronaldo Becomes Football’s First Billionaire After Al-Nassr Deal

Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo has officially become the first footballer to reach billionaire status following a lucrative contract extension with Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr. The 40-year-old Portuguese forward now has an estimated net worth of $1.4 billion, making him one of the wealthiest athletes in history, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index.

Ronaldo’s fortune is the result of a combination of his record-breaking Al-Nassr contract, career earnings, sponsorships, and business ventures. The Al-Nassr deal, signed in June 2025, is reportedly valued at over $400 million and includes tax-free salaries, performance bonuses, access to a private jet, and an equity stake in the club. This agreement significantly boosted his earnings, making him the first footballer to cross the billion-dollar threshold.

Career Earnings and Endorsements

Ronaldo’s professional career spans over two decades, beginning with Sporting Lisbon and including stints at Manchester United, Real Madrid, Juventus, and Al-Nassr. He has earned more than $550 million in salaries throughout his career. Endorsements with brands such as Nike and Armani have contributed over $175 million, while his CR7 brand ventures, including hotels, gyms, and real estate, have added significantly to his wealth.

His move to Al-Nassr in 2023 marked a financial turning point. The transfer gave him the highest average annual pay of any footballer globally, supported by Saudi Arabia’s tax-free income policy. In addition to his salaries, bonuses, and business ventures, the 15% ownership stake in Al-Nassr further solidifies his financial position and sets the stage for a future in club ownership.

Investments and Global Influence

Ronaldo’s investments, managed by Lisbon-based LMcapital Wealth Management, cover hospitality, fitness, media, and real estate. Key holdings include the Pestana CR7 Hotel chain, a gym franchise, and luxury properties in Lisbon, Madeira, and the resort area of Quinta da Marinha. His latest estate there, reportedly worth €20 million, has drawn considerable attention locally.

Beyond his financial achievements, Ronaldo is one of the most influential athletes globally, with over 660 million Instagram followers, making him the most-followed individual in the world. His presence in the Saudi Pro League has also increased international visibility for the league, supporting Saudi Arabia’s strategy of promoting tourism and global recognition through high-profile sports figures.

Ronaldo joins a small group of billionaire athletes, including Michael Jordan and Roger Federer, though the majority of his wealth comes directly from salaries and contracts rather than solely equity. His reported plans to retire at Al-Nassr and eventually move into club ownership signal a continuation of his sporting and financial legacy.
