Burna Boy Draws from Personal Struggles for New Album Title, No Sign of Weakness

Nigerian superstar Damini Ebunoluwa Ogulu, known as Burna Boy, announced his eighth studio album, No Sign of Weakness, slated for release in July 2025. He revealed that the album’s title was inspired by personal trials that tested his resilience.

He spoke of facing moments that could have broken him, yet he emerged stronger, his voice steady against the studio’s ambient hum. The announcement included a teaser of the single Empty Chairs, its lyrics evoking memories of headlining New York’s Citi Field on July 8, 2023, where 41,000 fans packed the stadium, their cheers echoing across the Bronx.

Burna Boy’s journey began in Port Harcourt’s vibrant music scene, launching with his 2012 single Like to Party from the album L.I.F.E. His Afro-fusion sound, weaving Afrobeats, reggae, hip-hop, and R&B, catapulted him to global fame through albums like African Giant (2019) and Twice as Tall (2020), the latter clinching a Grammy for Best Global Music Album. Recent tracks, Bundle by Bundle and Update, dropped in December 2024 and February 2025, respectively, hint at the album’s dynamic vibe, with Update sampling Soul II Soul’s Back to Life.
