President Bola Tinubu on July 26, 2025, issued a passionate call to the Super Falcons, Nigeria’s women’s national football team, to secure the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) trophy in their final match against Morocco at the Olympic Stadium in Rabat, scheduled for 9:00 PM WAT.

In a statement released earlier today, Tinubu lauded the team’s remarkable journey through the 2024 tournament, emphasizing their unbeaten run, including a 5-0 quarter-final demolition of Zambia and a dramatic 2-1 semi-final victory over South Africa on July 22. He specifically commended their display of sportsmanship, highlighting their visit to injured Banyana Banyana player Gabriela Salgado following the semi-final clash, an act he described as a reflection of “shared humanity, empathy, and sisterly affection.”

The President noted the team’s resilience, having conceded only one goal throughout the tournament, and their pursuit of a record-extending 10th title. Tinubu announced the dispatch of a high-level delegation, including ministers and the National Sports Commission Chairman, to Rabat to convey national support, promising a triumphant reception in Abuja with the trophy.

The visit to Salgado, who suffered a severe ankle injury in the semi-final, involved key players like Rasheedat Ajibade and Michelle Alozie. The narrative of national pride is strong, but the outcome hinges on the Falcons’ ability to convert their form into victory against a host nation eager to claim their first title.
