Bremen Summon Boniface Over Controversial Social Media Posts

Bremen and Boniface

Werder Bremen striker Victor Boniface has been summoned by the club’s management after a series of cryptic and controversial social media posts sparked concern in Germany.

The 24-year-old Nigerian, currently on loan from Bayer Leverkusen, joined Bremen in the summer and was expected to lead the club’s attack. But his off-field activities have dominated headlines after German outlet EXPRESS reported that his recent posts unsettled the club’s hierarchy.

“Boniface has caused real trouble at Werder Bremen. The reason is strange social media posts. Now the striker has to report to the bosses,” the report stated.

Posts That Stirred Reactions

Boniface, known for his playful and sometimes provocative online presence, shared a picture of his damaged car mirror on Snapchat, followed by a cryptic message on Instagram.

He then posted relationship advice that quickly went viral:

“If you waste your money on too many women, you will not achieve anything in life. Find yourself one or two women and settle down. At most three women, or if you are going through a lot, four is also okay.”

While many Nigerian fans saw the post as typical of Boniface’s humour, Bremen officials reportedly found it odd and are seeking clarification. Canadian rapper Drake even joined the conversation, dropping a laughing emoji under the post. Boniface replied, “Bro, dm for more advice,” further fuelling online chatter.

The striker also recently clapped back at an online critic who accused him of being unprofessional, mocking her wig in a response that divided opinion on whether players should engage trolls at all.

Club Response and On-Field Form

Neither Boniface nor Bremen has publicly commented, but the club is expected to address the matter privately. Head coach Horst Steffen has also urged Boniface to focus on his positioning after he was “too much everywhere” during Bremen’s 3–0 defeat to Freiburg.

Despite the controversy, Steffen praised Boniface’s energy in training and hinted that he could feature in Friday night’s Bundesliga clash against Bayern Munich.

The forward, who failed a medical at AC Milan earlier this year due to knee issues, has played just 45 minutes for Bremen so far, registering an assist on his debut in a 4–0 win over Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Boniface has embraced his new chapter in Germany, choosing the number 44 shirt at Bremen after his preferred number 22 was taken by defender Julian Malatini.
