Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has been moved from the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) in Abuja to a correctional facility in Sokoto, according to his lawyer, Aloy Ejimakor.
Ejimakor announced the development in a post on X on Friday, saying his client was relocated shortly after the federal high court in Abuja sentenced him to life imprisonment.
“MAZI NNAMDI KANU has just been moved from DSS Abuja to the correctional facility (prison) in Sokoto; so far away from his lawyers, family, loved ones and well-wishers,” he wrote, expressing concern over the difficulty the new location poses for legal access and family visits.

The transfer came less than 24 hours after Justice James Omotosho convicted Kanu on seven counts of terrorism, ruling that the prosecution had proved its case beyond reasonable doubt. The judge ordered that the sentence run concurrently and directed authorities to keep Kanu in a secure environment with restricted access to communication devices.
