In a dominant display at the Allianz Arena, Bayern Munich defeated Bayer Leverkusen 3-0 in the first leg of their UEFA Champions League Round of 16 tie. The Bavarians showcased their attacking prowess and defensive solidity, putting themselves in a strong position ahead of the return leg.

Bayern Munich started the match assertively, controlling possession and creating early chances. Their efforts paid off in the 9th minute when Harry Kane opened the scoring with a powerful header, capitalizing on a precise cross from the right flank.

Leverkusen’s attempts to respond were hampered by defensive errors. In the 35th minute, a miscommunication between goalkeeper Matej Kovar and his defense allowed Jamal Musiala to intercept a back pass and slot the ball into an empty net, doubling Bayern’s lead.

The second half saw Leverkusen’s situation worsen when defender Nordi Mukiele received a second yellow card in the 60th minute, reducing his team to ten men. Bayern capitalized on their numerical advantage, and in the 75th minute, Harry Kane converted a penalty after a foul inside the box, securing his second goal of the match and sealing a comprehensive 3-0 victory for the hosts.

Bayern’s coach, Vincent Kompany, praised his team’s performance but emphasized the importance of maintaining focus for the return leg. He acknowledged that despite the favorable result, the tie is not over, and complacency must be avoided.

Leverkusen’s manager, Xabi Alonso, admitted that his team’s errors were costly but expressed determination to fight back in the second leg. He highlighted the need for improved discipline and concentration to overturn the deficit.
