Deputy Senate President Jibrin Barau has reiterated the Senate’s unwavering support for President Bola Tinubu’s reform initiatives, describing legislative cooperation as key to the success of the government’s ongoing economic and governance strategies.
Barau made this known during a media engagement in Abuja, where he explained that the National Assembly remains aligned with the executive arm in ensuring that the administration’s reform policies achieve tangible results across all sectors. According to him, the Senate’s role is to provide the necessary legislative backing that would make the implementation of national reforms more effective and impactful.
He stated that the legislature and the executive are partners in progress, working toward a common goal of rebuilding Nigeria’s economy, restoring institutional confidence, and ensuring that citizens feel the benefits of governance.

Barau explained that the reforms introduced by the Tinubu-led administration are designed to reposition the country for sustainable growth. He noted that the Senate has been actively involved in reviewing, amending, and passing bills that align with the government’s priorities, particularly in sectors such as power, infrastructure, public finance, and industrial development.
According to the Deputy Senate President, the legislature understands the urgency of the current reforms and is working to create a strong legal foundation for their execution. He emphasized that many of the policies being implemented require legislative adjustments to remove outdated provisions, promote transparency, and enhance institutional accountability.
Barau highlighted that the Senate has already passed several reform-oriented bills and is considering others aimed at supporting long-term economic stability. These legislative measures, he said, are expected to open new channels for private investment, encourage innovation, and strengthen the business environment.

He further stated that the collaboration between both arms of government is not limited to lawmaking but also extends to policy oversight and budget implementation. Through its committees, the Senate is ensuring that ministries, departments, and agencies of government carry out their responsibilities in line with the objectives of the reform agenda.
Barau said the National Assembly remains conscious of the social and economic impact of the government’s decisions and will continue to push for policies that improve citizens’ welfare. He stressed that the Senate’s commitment is to ensure that the outcomes of the reform process contribute directly to poverty reduction, job creation, and improved living standards for Nigerians.
He added that the reforms, though challenging, are necessary steps toward achieving a more productive and transparent economy. By supporting the executive’s vision, the Senate hopes to accelerate national recovery and set the foundation for future growth.
The Deputy Senate President also underscored the importance of unity between the executive and legislative arms in maintaining national stability. He noted that when both arms work in harmony, it becomes easier to address policy gaps, attract investor confidence, and sustain political order.
Barau stated that the legislature is not only focused on passing new laws but also committed to ensuring effective oversight of public institutions. He explained that regular monitoring of policy execution is necessary to prevent waste, strengthen accountability, and ensure that the benefits of reforms reach the people at the grassroots level.
He said that the Senate has continued to engage stakeholders in various sectors to gather feedback on the progress of government programmes. These engagements, according to him, help lawmakers understand how reforms are affecting citizens and businesses, thereby enabling the Senate to refine its approach to legislation.

Barau maintained that the Senate will continue to prioritize laws that promote transparency, safeguard public resources, and ensure fair distribution of national wealth. He also emphasized that the legislature’s approach is guided by the need to balance reform speed with social protection, ensuring that no segment of the population is left behind in the process of national renewal.
He reaffirmed that the current National Assembly remains dedicated to strengthening the democratic process through effective collaboration, legislative innovation, and people-oriented policies. By aligning its activities with the executive’s developmental goals, the Senate hopes to build a governance framework that is both responsive and sustainable.
Barau concluded that the joint efforts of the legislative and executive arms are essential to achieving the broader objectives of the Tinubu administration’s reform agenda. With consistency and accountability, he said, the country would begin to experience the benefits of these policies through a more stable economy, stronger institutions, and better public confidence in government actions.
