Awori Communities in Lagos and Ogun States Seek Merger

The Awori Welfare Association of Nigeria (AWAN) has announced its intention to pursue the merger of Awori communities located in Lagos and Ogun states. This initiative aims to unify the Awori people in preparation for the potential creation of a new state that would encapsulate their cultural and historical identity.

The proposal seeks to address administrative and developmental challenges faced by the Awori communities, which are currently split between two states. By consolidating these areas, AWAN believes that the Awori people can achieve more coordinated development, preserve their cultural heritage, and enhance political representation.

This move reflects a broader trend in Nigeria, where ethnic and cultural groups advocate for administrative realignments to better serve their interests. The success of such initiatives often depends on political negotiations, legislative processes, and the ability to demonstrate that the proposed changes will lead to improved governance and socio-economic benefits for the affected populations.
