In the aftermath of the recent fire incident at the Rivers State House of Assembly, several individuals who were initially detained and later acquitted have come forward with serious allegations.

They claim that during their detention, they were subjected to intense pressure from certain authorities to falsely implicate Dr. Edison Ehie, the Chief of Staff to Governor Siminalayi Fubara, in connection with the fire. These individuals assert that despite the coercion, they refused to provide false testimony, leading to their eventual release due to a lack of evidence.

This development has raised significant concerns about potential political maneuvering and the integrity of investigative processes within the state’s law enforcement agencies.

Observers and civil society organizations are calling for an independent inquiry to ensure that justice is served without undue influence or bias. The Rivers State government has yet to issue an official statement regarding these allegations.
