Arsenal has been dealt a major setback in their pursuit of the Premier League title and Champions League glory, as star defender Gabriel Magalhães has been ruled out for the remainder of the 2024/25 season due to a hamstring injury.

The Brazilian centre-back sustained the injury during Arsenal’s hard-fought 2-1 victory over Fulham on April 1, 2025. Despite initial hopes that he would make a quick recovery, medical assessments confirmed that the 27-year-old requires surgery, which will keep him sidelined until the next campaign.

Arsenal’s medical team, in an official statement, said, Following a thorough examination, we can confirm that Gabriel has suffered a significant hamstring tear that requires surgical intervention. His rehabilitation process will begin immediately after surgery, with the aim of ensuring a full recovery before pre-season training.”

Manager Mikel Arteta, visibly concerned about the situation, admitted that losing Gabriel is a severe blow to Arsenal’s defensive setup, particularly with the club already facing an injury crisis. Key defenders, including Jurrien Timber, Riccardo Calafiori, Ben White, and Takehiro Tomiyasu, have also struggled with fitness issues this season.

“Gabriel is an integral part of our team, and his absence will be felt,” Arteta stated. “We have to adapt and ensure that we continue competing at the highest level. Injuries are part of football, and we must find solutions.”

Gabriel has been a crucial figure for Arsenal this season, forming a formidable partnership with William Saliba at the heart of the defense. His contributions have been vital in the club’s strong performances both domestically and in Europe.

With the crucial UEFA Champions League quarter-finals against Real Madrid approaching, Arsenal will need to rely on their defensive depth to navigate the challenges ahead. Arteta is expected to turn to Jakub Kiwior or shift Ben White to a central role to cover for Gabriel’s absence.

Fans have taken to social media to express their disappointment over Gabriel’s injury, with many hoping for his swift recovery. The Brazilian’s absence will undoubtedly test Arsenal’s squad depth as they continue their hunt for silverware this season.
