Felix Morka, National Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), on June 29, 2025, stated that former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso is free to rejoin the APC and work with President Bola Tinubu, dismissing speculations of barriers to his return.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Morka clarified, “The party has said nothing about Kwankwaso joining; no determination has been made,” addressing rumours sparked by Abdullahi Ganduje’s resignation as APC National Chairman on June 27. Kwankwaso, the 2023 NNPP presidential candidate, commands the Kwankwasiyya movement, with 2 million followers in Kano, a state delivering 1.5 million votes in 2023.

Tinubu’s reported talks with Kwankwaso, a former APC member, aim to secure the North-West’s 7 million voters for 2027, given Kano’s 20% contribution to the zone’s votes. Ganduje’s exit, linked to their rivalry, was allegedly pressured by Tinubu to facilitate Kwankwaso’s return, though Morka denied presidential dissatisfaction with Ganduje.

The NNPP, facing defections like Senator Abdulrahman Kawu’s, claims Kwankwaso remains committed, with Kano’s Hashimu Dungurawa dismissing Ganduje’s exit as an embarrassment. Morka emphasized APC’s 10,000 defections from opposition parties since 2023, projecting a 15% vote share increase if Kwankwaso joins, strengthening Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
