APC Relocates NEC Meeting to Presidential Villa Amid Strategic Discussions

The All Progressives Congress (APC) announced on July 24, 2025, the relocation of its National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting from the party’s secretariat to the Presidential Villa, signaling a strategic shift ahead of key political maneuvers.

The decision, confirmed by APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje, aims to facilitate direct engagement with President Bola Tinubu and senior government officials, with the meeting scheduled for July 25. The agenda includes reviewing the party’s performance since the 2023 elections, planning for the 2027 cycle, and addressing recent defections, such as the four PDP senators who joined on July 23.

The move has sparked debate, with some viewing it as a consolidation of power under Tinubu’s influence, given the Villa’s symbolic weight, while others see it as a practical response to security concerns at the secretariat. Critics within the opposition argue it blurs the line between party and state, potentially undermining democratic norms, though no official security threats were cited.

The NEC’s composition, including 72 senators and 24 governors, underscores the APC’s growing dominance, but the lack of transparency about the agenda raises questions about internal priorities versus public accountability.
