American tennis star Amanda Anisimova capped off a sensational 2025 season by defeating Czech rising star Linda Noskova 6-0, 2-6, 6-2 on Sunday to win the China Open in Beijing. The victory marks her second title of the year and fourth overall on the WTA Tour.
The 24-year-old world number four battled through a mid-match slump but eventually found her rhythm to overpower the 26th-seeded Noskova in one hour and 46 minutes. The win comes just a month after her memorable run to the US Open final, where she finished runner-up to world number one Aryna Sabalenka.
With the triumph, Anisimova becomes only the third American woman to lift the China Open trophy, following in the footsteps of Serena Williams and Coco Gauff, last year’s champion.
Ruthless Start, Resilient Finish
Anisimova opened the match with a blistering display of power and precision, racing through the first set in just 23 minutes without conceding a single game. Her heavy groundstrokes and confident baseline play left Noskova scrambling to find answers as the American dictated every rally.
However, Noskova, playing in her first WTA 1000 final, refused to fold. The 20-year-old Czech regrouped in the second set, breaking early and surging to a 5–2 lead. With renewed aggression and consistent serving, she levelled the match, taking the set 6–2 to silence the Beijing crowd and force a decider.
The final set saw both players trade fierce rallies, but Anisimova’s experience and composure under pressure made the difference. She broke for a 4–2 lead, showcasing her improved movement and shot selection. Moments later, she sealed victory with a forehand winner on her first match point, collapsing to the hard court in disbelief before covering her face in tears of joy.
“I’ve worked so hard to be here again, especially after everything that’s happened in my career,” Anisimova said afterward. “Winning this title means a lot, it shows I’m growing stronger, mentally and physically.”
Breakthrough Season for the American
The Beijing crown continues a remarkable comeback story for Anisimova, who has re-established herself among tennis’s elite after years of inconsistency and injury setbacks. This time last year, she was ranked No. 43, but an impressive 2025 season, including a Wimbledon final appearance and the US Open runner-up finish, has propelled her into the world’s top five.
Her dominant semi-final victory over Gauff, where she crushed the second seed 6–1, 6–2 in just 58 minutes, showcased her newfound confidence and shot-making clarity.
For Noskova, despite the loss, Beijing marked a milestone. The young Czech, who started the tournament as world No. 27, recorded several notable wins on her way to her first appearance in a WTA 1000 final, signaling her potential as one of the sport’s rising stars.
“I’m proud of how I fought this week,” Noskova said. “Amanda played amazing, but this gives me belief for the future.”
Anisimova’s triumph cements her as one of the standout players of the year and raises expectations ahead of the WTA Finals later this season. With her powerful game and renewed mental edge, the American’s resurgence looks far from over.
