Amnesty International has called on Nigerian authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into sexual harassment allegations made by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan against Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
In a statement released on March 22, 2025, the human rights organization emphasized the gravity of the allegations and the necessity for accountability and justice.
Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, has accused Akpabio of sexual harassment, bringing attention to issues of misconduct within Nigeria’s political sphere. Amnesty International’s Director in Nigeria, Isa Sanusi, highlighted that such allegations should not be ignored and must be addressed promptly to uphold the integrity of public offices.
The organization stressed that addressing these allegations is crucial for promoting a culture of respect and accountability, especially within governmental institutions. They urged the Nigerian government to ensure that the investigation is conducted impartially and transparently, providing protection for all parties involved.
