Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso believes Trent Alexander-Arnold is only beginning to find his rhythm at the club, insisting the defender’s best form is still ahead of him as he settles into life in Spain.
The England international arrived in the summer after leaving Liverpool, but his first months in La Liga have been interrupted by a hamstring injury that kept him out for several weeks. He has, however, completed Madrid’s last two matches, a development Alonso described as “very positive” as the team prepares for Sunday’s game against Girona.
Alexander-Arnold, who spent years as a key figure at Anfield, was initially rotated with Dani Carvajal before picking up the injury that slowed his adaptation. Alonso said the defender is beginning to regain sharpness and confidence, especially after producing a stronger performance in the Champions League win over Olympiacos following a shaky outing against Elche.

According to the coach, the 27-year-old is “starting to feel like himself again” and is steadily adjusting to the demands of Madrid’s system. He added that the club is committed to supporting the player through the transition, noting that moving from his boyhood club to Spain represents a major shift both on and off the pitch.
Alonso also took time to commend Jude Bellingham, who has continued to show consistency after returning from injury. He described the midfielder as a “world-class talent” with a rare hunger for improvement and said their close communication has helped maintain his impressive form.
Real Madrid Advances in Pursuit of Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold
Madrid head into the Girona match after back-to-back league draws and are looking to rebuild momentum as the season enters a crucial stretch. Alonso confirmed that Franco Mastantuono, Antonio Rüdiger and Éder Militão have rejoined the squad after injury layoffs, while Raúl Asencio remains uncertain.

With key players returning and Alexander-Arnold edging toward full sharpness, the manager said the team is optimistic about stabilizing results and pushing forward in both La Liga and Europe.
