Swedish striker Alexander Isak has formally notified Newcastle United of his intention to leave the club during the 2025 summer transfer window, according to sources close to the player reported on July 25, 2025.
The 25-year-old, who joined Newcastle from Real Sociedad in 2022 for £63 million, has been a standout performer, scoring 36 goals in 78 appearances, including 21 in the 2024-25 Premier League season. His decision follows reported interest from Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Al Hilal and Bayern Munich, with Isak citing a desire for a new challenge and Champions League football.
Newcastle’s sporting director Paul Mitchell confirmed the club received a transfer request, valuing Isak at £175 million due to his contract, which runs until 2028. Isak’s agent, Peter Krawietz, emphasized the player’s ambition to compete at the highest level, with Liverpool emerging as the frontrunner.
Fans on X express mixed sentiments, praising his contributions but lamenting the loss of a key asset. The narrative of departure is driven by career progression, with Newcastle facing a dilemma between cashing in or retaining their star, potentially impacting their 2025-26 squad planning.
