Former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi asserted that ex-President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration surpassed President Bola Tinubu’s current government, despite Buhari’s unachieved objectives.

Amaechi, a 2023 presidential aspirant, credited Buhari with stabilizing security and infrastructure, noting a 15% reduction in insurgency deaths (from 2,000 to 1,700 annually) and 10,000 km of roads built. He contrasted this with Tinubu’s tenure, citing 33% inflation, 10,217 insecurity deaths since 2023, and a Naira devaluation impacting 20 million citizens.

Amaechi, who defected from the APC in 2024, acknowledged Buhari’s failures, including a $36 billion debt and 12,000 MW power deficit, but argued Tinubu’s policies, like fuel subsidy removal, worsened poverty by 15%.

The statement, supported by 60% of Rivers’ 7 million residents per a local poll, has reignited 2027 speculation. Tinubu’s allies, including FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, dismissed Amaechi’s claims, highlighting 5,000 jobs from road projects. Amaechi plans a nationwide tour by Q3 to outline his vision, targeting 10 million votes.
