Jannik Sinner Powers into Wimbledon Last 16 as Djokovic Eyes Century

Italian tennis star Jannik Sinner advanced to the Wimbledon last 16 on July 5, 2025, defeating American Ben Shelton 6-3, 6-4, 7-5 in a commanding display, while Novak Djokovic looms as he targets his 100th career win at the All England Club.

The world No. 1, Sinner, showcased 85% first-serve accuracy and 28 winners, overcoming Shelton’s 130 mph serves in a match lasting 2 hours and 15 minutes on Court 1. His victory, his 40th of 2025, sets up a clash with Russian Daniil Medvedev on July 6, bolstering his bid for a second Grand Slam title after the 2024 Australian Open.

Djokovic, the seven-time champion, reached the same stage with a 6-4, 6-2, 6-3 win over French wildcard Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard, edging closer to his 100th Wimbledon win, currently at 97. The 38-year-old Serb, recovering from a 2024 knee surgery, displayed 75% net efficiency, with fans anticipating a potential semifinal against Sinner.

Attendance hit 42,000, with 60% betting on Djokovic’s experience, though Sinner’s 20-4 head-to-head record against top-10 players fuels optimism. The tournament, with £50 million in prizes, sees both players as favorites, with Sinner’s next match pivotal.
