2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers: Nigeria Thrash Rwanda to End Four-Game Winless Run

Nigeria secured their first win in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers with an emphatic victory over Rwanda in Kigali, bringing an end to a four-game winless streak.

The Super Eagles, under new head coach Eric Chelle, came into the match determined to claim their first three points of the campaign. They dominated proceedings and created numerous opportunities in the first half.  Victor Osimhen opened the scoring in the 11th minute with a clinical finish, capitalizing on a brilliant assist from CAF African Footballer of the Year, Ademola Lookman.

Nigeria continued to press forward and doubled their lead just before halftime, with Osimhen securing his brace through a well-placed finish.

Rwanda pushed to break down the Nigerian defense in the second half, but the Super Eagles stood firm to secure a much-needed win.

With this result, Nigeria now trails Group C leaders South Africa by three points. The Super Eagles will look to build on their momentum when they face Zimbabwe in a crucial must-win match in Uyo on Tuesday, March 25.
