Amid speculations surrounding Peter Obi’s political future, Dr. Yunusa Tanko, spokesman for the Labour Party Presidential Campaign Council, has dismissed claims suggesting that the former Anambra State governor is planning to dump the Labour Party for another political platform.
This rebuttal came in response to comments made by Adewole Adebayo, presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), who claimed in an interview that Peter Obi was “already out” of the Labour Party. Adebayo insinuated that Obi had grown disillusioned with the party and was weighing other options.
Tanko, however, described the comments as misleading and unfounded. He reaffirmed that Peter Obi remains a committed and active member of the Labour Party and has no plans to leave. According to Tanko, the statement from Adebayo was merely a political gimmick meant to stir unnecessary controversy and confuse the public.
He stressed that Obi, who emerged as a major force in the 2023 elections under the Labour Party, is focused on continuing his advocacy for good governance, transparency, and youth inclusion in politics. Tanko called on party faithful and Obi’s supporters to disregard any reports to the contrary, reiterating that the Labour Party remains united and resolute in its mission to reshape Nigeria’s political landscape.
