The death toll from the recent spate of attacks in Bokkos Local Government Area of Plateau State has tragically risen to 52, according to new reports from local authorities. This devastating increase in casualties follows coordinated violent attacks on several communities in the area.

Eyewitnesses and local leaders have described the attacks as highly organized, with armed assailants storming villages in the early hours of the morning, burning homes, and shooting at fleeing residents. Women, children, and the elderly were not spared, with many of the victims being non-combatants caught in the crossfire.

This fresh wave of violence recalls the gruesome incidents that took place in Plateau during the Christmas holidays in 2023, when over 200 villagers were killed in what authorities then described as the deadliest attack in recent years.

Local leaders and residents are now calling for more robust intervention from the federal government and security agencies. While the state government has condemned the killings and promised to bring the perpetrators to justice, many citizens remain skeptical, pointing to repeated failures to protect vulnerable communities across the region.
