The Lagos State Government has launched a major eviction operation under the Adeniji Adele Bridge on Lagos Island, removing illegal occupants and makeshift structures that had turned the area into an informal settlement.

Officials from the Lagos State Environmental and Special Offences Unit (Task Force) led the eviction, citing security risks and environmental concerns. According to the government, the unauthorized settlements had become a hotspot for criminal activities, including drug peddling and robbery, posing a threat to residents and commuters.

The eviction, which was carried out under heavy security presence, saw several shanties demolished, with affected occupants advised to seek proper housing arrangements. Authorities have reiterated that illegal structures and settlements will no longer be tolerated in public spaces across Lagos, emphasizing the need to maintain order and cleanliness in the metropolis.

While some residents supported the government’s move, others expressed concerns about the lack of alternative housing solutions for those displaced by the eviction. The state government, however, insisted that the action was necessary to restore safety and ensure compliance with urban planning regulations.
