Following the devastating fire that ravaged parts of the Alesinloye market in Ibadan, Oyo State, on March 25, 2025, Governor Seyi Makinde has announced a comprehensive plan to remodel and rebuild the market.

The fire, which reportedly began in one of the electrical stalls, caused extensive damage to goods and properties, with traders estimating their losses in the millions of naira.

Governor Makinde, who visited the site shortly after the fire, reassured the affected traders that the state government would provide immediate assistance. The Governor emphasized that the rebuilding effort would not only focus on restoring the market but also on upgrading its infrastructure to prevent future disasters. He said, “We understand the impact this has had on our traders, and we are committed to rebuilding Alesinloye market, ensuring that it is safer and better equipped to handle the needs of our people.”

Makinde further revealed that the new design of the market would include advanced fire safety measures, better accessibility, and a more organized layout to accommodate traders and customers. Additionally, the state government has announced plans to provide compensation to the affected market vendors to help them recover from the fire's financial toll. A special task force has been set up to oversee the market’s restoration and ensure that the rebuilding process is completed as quickly as possible.
