The Department of State Services (DSS) has arrested two key suspects in connection with the brutal murder of 16 travelers in Uromi, a town in Esan North-East Local Government Area of Edo State.
The killings, which sent shockwaves across the nation, occurred when gunmen attacked a convoy of travelers, executing victims in what authorities described as a targeted act of violence.
Following intense investigations and intelligence gathering, security operatives successfully tracked down and apprehended the suspects in Uromi. The operation was conducted discreetly to prevent any attempts by accomplices to escape.
Confirming the development, the Chief Press Secretary to the Edo State Governor, Friday Ituah, stated that the government remains committed to ensuring justice for the victims. He assured that the investigation is ongoing and that more arrests will follow.
“Security agencies are actively working to capture all those involved. The arrest of these two principal suspects is a breakthrough, but we are not stopping here. The full weight of the law will be applied,” Ituah said.
The attack in Uromi had sparked widespread condemnation, with civil society groups and local leaders calling for decisive action against criminal elements operating in the area.
Residents of Uromi expressed relief at the latest arrests but urged security forces to remain vigilant, as fear still lingers in the community. “We want to live without fear. The government must ensure that all perpetrators are caught and punished,” one local resident stated.
Authorities have called on members of the public to provide any useful information that could lead to further arrests as investigations continue.
