British comedian and actor Russell Brand has been formally charged by the Metropolitan Police with multiple sexual offenses, including rape and indecent assault, involving four women between 1999 and 2005.
The charges encompass one count of rape, one of indecent assault, one of oral rape, and two of sexual assault. Brand, known for his flamboyant presence on British television and roles in films such as "Get Him to the Greek," has denied all allegations, asserting that all his past relationships were consensual.
The legal proceedings were initiated following investigations prompted by reports from the Sunday Times and Channel 4’s "Dispatches" in 2023, which brought the allegations to public attention. Brand, who now primarily shares his views online, described the legal proceedings as a misuse of the law, asserting in a social media post that while he behaved foolishly in his younger years, he never committed rape. He is scheduled to appear in court on May 2.
