The Bauchi State Ministry of Education has officially announced the resumption of academic activities for all public and private primary and secondary schools, as well as higher institutions, following a five-week hiatus in observance of the Ramadan fast.
According to a statement released by the ministry's Information and Public Relations Officer, Jalaludeen Usman, both day and boarding schools are scheduled to reopen on Sunday, April 6, 2025, for the continuation of the second term.
The statement emphasized the government's commitment to education under the leadership of Governor Bala Mohammed, highlighting plans to commence JAMB Computer-Based Test (CBT) training for all government-sponsored candidates. This initiative aims to empower students to excel in forthcoming examinations.
Parents and guardians have been advised to ensure their wards resume promptly on the stipulated date to avoid any disruptions to their academic progress. The ministry has warned that late resumption will not be tolerated.
The initial closure of schools, which began on March 1, 2025, was part of the 2024–2025 academic calendar. However, the extended break sparked criticism from various quarters, including civil society organizations and religious groups, who expressed concerns over its impact on the education system.
In response to these concerns, the government reiterated its dedication to prioritizing education and implementing measures to enhance the quality of learning in the state. The reopening of schools is seen as a step towards normalizing the academic calendar and addressing the educational needs of students in Bauchi State.
