President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has explained his decision to appoint Dr. Bosun Tijani as the Minister of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, despite Tijani's past criticisms of him.
During a recent address, Tinubu dismissed concerns about past negative remarks made by the minister, stating that his administration prioritizes competence, expertise, and national development over personal grievances.
"I have a belief; it is not about the individual, it is about our country. I don't care what you have said about me in the past. I don't read social media; I don't read Twitter, Facebook, and whatnot. I am focused on governance," Tinubu stated.
Bosun Tijani, a tech entrepreneur and co-founder of Co-Creation Hub (CcHub), had previously made critical remarks about Tinubu on social media. However, his impressive track record in tech innovation, digital transformation, and ICT development made him a strong candidate for the ministerial role.
The President emphasized that Nigeria’s development should not be hindered by past disagreements, and that capable individuals should be given opportunities to contribute to national progress, regardless of previous political views.
Tijani, now leading the Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, has been tasked with driving Nigeria’s digital transformation agenda, fostering innovation, and expanding the country’s technology ecosystem.
This appointment reinforces Tinubu’s stance on merit-based governance, demonstrating his willingness to engage professionals who can deliver results, irrespective of their political opinions.
