Nigerian striker Victor Boniface has reached out to his compatriots, requesting their understanding and patience after he found the net in Bayer Leverkusen's 3-1 victory over Bochum.

This goal comes shortly after his goalless appearances for the Nigerian national team, the Super Eagles, during the recent international break. Boniface took to social media to express his sentiments, stating, "9ja, please be patient with me, the goals will come."

In the match against Bochum, Boniface started for the first time since early February and made a significant impact by restoring Leverkusen's lead with a close-range finish in the 60th minute. He later contributed to another goal by assisting teammate Amine Adli in the closing stages. Despite having a second goal disallowed for a narrow offside, his performance was instrumental in securing the win, which narrowed Bayern Munich's lead at the top of the Bundesliga to three points.

However, Boniface's recent form with the Super Eagles has drawn criticism from Nigerian fans. Despite earning 12 international caps, he has yet to score for the national team. His close attempt against Saudi Arabia in 2023 was recorded as an own goal, adding to the frustration of supporters. The contrast between his club success and national team performances has led to heightened scrutiny.

In response to the backlash, Boniface's plea underscores his commitment to translating his club success to the international stage. He emphasized that goal-scoring opportunities can vary between club and international play and assured fans of his dedication to improving his contributions to the Super Eagles.
